Ring My Bell
If you live a certain kind of urban lifestyle, as I do, the only people who ring your doorbell unexpectedly are Jehovah’s Witnesses and UPS.
So hey who’s going to be at C2E2 next weekend? Come see me at the Prism booth on Friday and Sunday! Come see me at the gay comics panel on Saturday at 4pm!
And hey who’s going to be at the CHIRP Record Fair? It’s the same weekend! I will be there on Saturday myself. Whoah nelly what a week I’ve got ahead of me.
ANYWAY, come to these things if you are in the area!

I live in a locked-door apartment building. Nobody can get in unless a resident lets them in, yet we all have doorbells. Mine is *conveniently* placed right behind the stair railing, which is attached to the wall. Every so often, someone will accidentally ring it when they head upstairs.
This is going to lead to awkwardness ain’t it?
I really hate answering the doorbell…. Except when I have ordered pizza!
I live near Downtown Brooklyn, Mothership to Jehovah’s Witnesses. I had to eject two from our building’s foyer who were shocked, SHOCKED that I wanted them gone immediately and crumpled up the crap they had left in front of their faces. That was a week after I had to escort two Korean Xtian missionaries from our (private) building–apparently we’re so bad that the foreign legions have to come to save us.
Since I work from home, though, the UPS guys always know to buzz my apt. so they can drop stuff off.
I’ve lived in locked buildings most of my hears here in Salt Lake. Salt Lake is, as I phrase it, Mormon Central, and I’ve always had dreams of welcoming a pair of missionaries into my home to treat to hot choclate and herbal tea and expound upon the joys of being a member of the LGBT community to them.
I actually used the UPS guy thing as a plot point in my first book. He was a killer, and that’s how he got his victims to open the door – by posing as the UPS guy. Hey, if you’ve got the uniform, you might as well use it …
Actually, our UPS guy usually rings, puts the box down on the doorstep, and disappears before we open the door.
