Top music recommendations of 2008
OK, you may be asking yourself, why should you care what a webcartoonist likes for music? Well, some of us have pretty good taste. It was Jeff Rowland who introduced me to the Decemberists, and John Allison has been posting top 20 lists for years.
My list is posted over at the CHIRP web site. Go read it! All of my choices are well-reasoned and insightful.
Ah! First off, I love the comic. I’m already excited for updates. Second? THE DECEMBERISTS! Sorry. I get really excited every time I see them mentioned. Also? I’m listening to them now.
The Hazards of Love? How about that Shara Worden as the queen — that is some awesome stuff.
If you’re like me, you were a little annoyed to see the Decemberists name-checked as shorthand for shameless alt-pop culture fandom in this comic. But Octopus Pie is generally such a good comic that all is forgiven.
The fact that I love that album so much can get pretty bad. I work assisted living and have to check myself before I start singing Rake’s Song in front of the old people… not that they’d hear a word of it if I did.
