Rockin’ a beard
When I wrote this comic I didn’t realize it was Asian-Pacific heritage month.
Ever since I introduced him, I’ve been wondering if people could tell Ken is Chinese-American. It’s not always easy to convey race without resorting to caricature. I do my best.
So the panel at C2E2 went well (thanks to those of you who came! big thanks to Dale Lazarov for putting it together!) and I met some really cool people, and then I got a cold and need to go to bed now.

Had fun meeting you at C2E2 this weekend too! (You told me to leave a comment so I am…)
Hi Futureworld! I remember you, though your real name eludes me. I remember faces, but names are difficult. Thanks for coming to the panel and stopping by to say hi after! (And thanks for commenting! I do like to hear from people.)
So could not tell .I’m glad you cleared that up. How long has his hair been so long on one side?
Hmmm… his hair is based on a guy I knew in college, but I think it’s been getting progressively longer since I introduced him. I figure it’s often a couple of months between his appearances, so it’s normal for his hair to change a little anyway.
But I do wonder: is his hair too New Wave for a guy born in 1990?
Hi! Just rediscovered your comic and am SO glad you’re still posting! I just did a double-take when I realised you were at C2E2; I was there, too, and would’ve loved to meet you. Ah well. There’s always next year.
Excellent comic, needless to say.
Thanks! I’m sure there will be opportunities again in the future…
Just reading through the archives after discovering this comic a few days ago. In answer to your pondering in your commentary, I could tell Ken was of Asian descent by the way you draw him since his early appearances.
