It just HAPPENED
Those of you know know me personally might recognize Bennie’s condition; the daughter of one of my best friends shares it. So I feel obligated to note that while this condition is based on something real that I have close experience with, the story is otherwise fictional. I am not telling my friend’s story (it’s not mine to tell). This is Nina and Mike’s story.
People often ask me about how much my comic is autobiographical and how much is fiction. The answer is, it’s essentially all fiction. I often take something from a real situation as a foundation, but then I place my characters in that situation and the story takes a life of its own.
That said, I want this comic to reflect the reality that I see around me. My own reality is that remarkable number of people close to me have special-needs kids, and so I decided to work that reality into this comic.
I hope you enjoy the story line!

TYPO in the latest comic: “I wasn’t something we did or did not do.”
Ugh. Thanks! I’ll fix it.
Fixed! Though with caching, not everyone will see it. :-/
A friend of mine got pregnant when she was 16 and her kid had verbal and emotional delays (emotional delays turned out to be linked directly to frustration RE the verbal delays). She was scolded soundly by several “professionals” for being a bad mom and not talking to her kid properly. She later had a daughter, who was developmentally normal… and then another son who had the exact. same. verbal. delay. It’s utterly unreal and appalling how many people have been quick to judge/blame her for something outside of her control. Gross man. Gross.
I see a stork in Finn and Charlie’s future . . or whatever metaphor is appropriate for gay men.
