Rupert

Rupert

Hi.

I didn’t draw a Finn and Charlie are Hitched comic this week. Instead I drew this autobiographical comic. I kind of needed to. I hope you enjoy it. I know, it’s serious, and normally I’m not.

If you came here for something funny, may I recommend you read this one, based on a true story, or this one, inspired by the general experience of having cats?

Finn and Charlie will return next week.

Losing a beloved pet really is the same as losing a member of your family. I’m so sorry for your loss. R.I.P. Rupert.

    I’m sorry too. :(

I recently lost one of my cats as well. She was old, so I knew it was coming, but damn, it’s always hard. My condolences.

Aww, man – I’m sorry about your loss! Yea, losing a loved pet is hell. I have watched two dogs grow up to old age, one dog to a terrible accident, and my bf’s gentle soul of a cat to a spinal disease. Every year, I cry on their birthdays and anniversaries of death – it is tears of joy and sadness. Each one was loved and i always made sure they knew it. I know it will be a big adjustment in the coming days to get used to the idea of the pets not being there anymore. Hell, it took me almost a year finally to be able to sleep without all of my babies around me. My sincerest condolences to you and your partner.

Lots to think about, that’s for sure.

I’m sorry so. I know it hurts like hell to lose a pet after so many years. They literally become family.

    Believe me . . . I know.

Peace and my prayers with you and yours.

That was very beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with us.

I’ve been through that a few times but I had one special dog and one special cat so I know how much it hurts. I’m so sorry for your loss :( Peace to you and yours.

My sympathies for your loss. I recently heard the tale of a friend’s loss of his beloved dog that tore me up. This is a great way to immortalize Rupert. Thank you for sharing with all of us.

My condolences, and also thanks, since I thought this was a really beautiful tribute to the way pets can impact a life.

Thanks everyone! I’ve been slow about responding, but each of your comments was touching and really appreciated.

Scandia, I’ve lost pets to old age or illness again and again, but never to an accident — that’s a kind of pain I can’t even imagine, the suddenness of it all. So you have my sympathy, especially, for that.

(And Andy, Wolfe, Marshia, and everyone else who’s gone through this, you have my sympathy too.)

Also, thanks to everyone for your feedback. I was afraid this comic was self-indulgent, but you’ve told me it wasn’t (or at least, if it was, that that was OK). And writing it helped me through that rough period.

Hi! I just discovered your comic and I LOVE it. I am so sorry about Rupert…Cats are amazing pets. My parents never let me keep one for long, but hopefully when I get my own place after college I can have a few. :) At least Rupert isn’t feeling any pain and, well, having had that one amazing, almost perfect pet is not something that everyone can brag about! You’re so lucky to have had Rupert in your life.

    Cheers!

I just saw this & it made me sad, but made me happy remembering Rupert licking me. He was the snuggliest kitty ever.
